Meeting

I wanted to know how everyone's reading is going? I actually got side tracked from Jane Eyre and started reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on my weekend mainland trip without the keiki. That book is fantastic! If you are looking to find a good, fun, fast read, I highly recommend it.

Is it just me or is this month crazy? I am hoping things will slow down, but that does not look too promising. This doesn't mean, though, that I wouldn't love to get together with you ladies. We could just do some sort of ice cream night at my house and just sit around and talk story. How does that sound with everyone? What nights work for you all?

I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season. Happy Christmas, friends!

What A Crazy Book Society We Are

So, in the midst of Stephanie's crazy blood clot illness, Liko's full-time job, my Bookmobile getting up and running, Echo's pregnancy and running a million miles, and Stef J.'s throwing up sessions, (amongst other things with our other members too!) we all still belong to a BOOK CLUB! And I haven't forgot (thanks Echo for the friendly reminder...:)) that it's my month to pick a book, even though the month is way more than half-way over. Like the rest of you, I'm sure, I've just been plowing my way through this crazy time of life, without looking up and taking a breath. Just trying to get through the territory. But today it stops. At least for a minute. So on this Friday afternoon, after working all morning and, in a few short minutes, will be bombarded with taking on my five niece and nephews for a sleepover, I am taking a short breather and am attempting to write down a book to enjoy this holiday season. My pick for this month is...

JANE EYRE

Because it's Christmastime, and I always read this book during Christmastime. Please enjoy this novel. I love it. It's a delicious read. Those clever Bronte sisters: love them and their depressing selves. I'm being serious, though. I really do love them.

More than anything, I'm thinking we just need to get together this month, all of us over here, and enjoy some relaxation and conversation. Can't wait to see you all.

I hear my niece and nephews just now, so I'd better sign off. Take care and enjoy the weekend.

Hey Ladies =)

I would loooove to hang out next week Tuesday, but I would really hate it for Stephanie and Stef J to be the only ones to have to make the long drive over to Kaneohe. We can totally cancel this one and just save up energy for the next get together. As much as I wanna see your beautiful faces, I know that it can get really hard to do these kinds of things. I know we all have things that come up. This week is really tight for me too. My mother in law (as Im sure Liko already knows-- since she works with her...hehehe), is going to Utah today and will not return until next week Wednesday or Thursday. She is our babysitter on Mondays and Fridays and the occasional Wednesdays, so Im working really long hours on the days that I can and taking off early on the days that she would've watched Ava. Because of these long hours (Tuesday and Thursday of next week), it's really hard for me to move my schedule around. I did it for Tuesday, but I dont think I have any more room to move things around to accomadate the book club for another day =( Im sorry Chicas. Im bummed, but lets take a break this month and re-vamp for next months book =) Hopefully I'll see you all sooner than later. I get off early tomorrow, friday, next week monday and wednesday, so if you all wanna hang out, just text me =)

We're gonna party like its 1999....

Have you guys listened to 93.9 lately!? Do you love the late 80's and early 90's music as much as I do? I think its funny how they have stuff from Prince and Paula Abdul, but then every once in a while they throw in stuff that was hot when we were in high school-- like cisco's - thong song. Ahh memories =)

Anyway, like the title says, we are going to party =) The date is set for our September get together--

Date & Time:
Tuesday, September 28th @ 7pm

Place:
Saigon Noodle House (Kaneohe) - Please see link for Yelp review and address =)
http://www.yelp.com/biz/saigon-noodle-house-kaneohe

Hope to see you all there! If you all cant come, the bun in the oven and I will definitely have a little party of our own with our delicious Pho =) Yummmm...

September get together!!

How does Tuesday, September 28th or Wednesday, September 29th sound?

Mama is loving some Pho right now. I just found a really good little place in Kaneohe that has very decent prices and they are delicious. Maybe we can meet there for some discussion or even to just catch up with each other? Then when we are done, we can walk around the mall and act like we are going to buy stuff (but we arent cause we all know we are all broke right now...hehehe). Everyone like that idea? Im getting hungry just thinking about it, but then again, Im always hungry these days =)

I realize that we try to go to these kind of get-togethers only when its being planned or hosted by someone that we know. I know this because I am very guilty of this myself =) Let's change this! Everyone, please come out even if I dont really hang out with you very often or at all. I can assure you that I am not (that) awkward. And, I don't pick my nose (often), so please feel comfortable to come out and enjoy. I hope everyone can make it out.

Place: Saigon Noodle House (Kaneohe) - Please see link for Yelp review and address =)
http://www.yelp.com/biz/saigon-noodle-house-kaneohe

Date & Time:
Option one- Tuesday, September 28th @ 630pm
Option two- Wednesday, September 29th @ 6 or 630pm

I know everyone's schedules are different and its hard to plan these kinds of things, so please post what day is good for you and we can go with the majority =)

September read!!!

Holy Smokes! I havent been keeping up and just realized that I have the september read....well, I've got a really good one for you. I just found this author last month, and I've already read three of his books that are translated to English. He's a Spanish author and he is amazing. His books are very gothic and always seems to walk a fine line of becoming a ghost story.

So, without further ado, I present the September read for your literary pleasure:

Book description from amazon.com--

'It's war time, and the Carver family decides to leave the capital where they live and move to a small coastal village where they've recently bought a home. But from the minute they cross the threshold, strange things begin to happen. In that mysterious house still lurks the spirit of Jacob, the previous owners' son, who died by drowning.

With the help of their new friend Roland, Max and Alicia Carver begin to explore the strange circumstances of that death and discover the existence of a mysterious being called the Prince of Mist--a diabolical character who has returned from the shadows to collect on a debt from the past. Soon the three friends find themselves caught up in an adventure of sunken ships and an enchanted stone garden--an adventure that will change their lives forever.'

Don't be put off by the description and the fact that its under the 'young adult' category. It's a more toned down version of his other books, but it's a really quick read that will keep you hooked from the first chapter. It's full of mystery and suspense with enough of that literary element to keep your brain tickled. And, it has a twist at the end. I LOVE books that have a twist at the end =)

I hope you all are able to check this one out. Im excited to hear how you liked it and what you got from it. I dont know what we'll be doing as far as a get together is concerned, but I'll keep you updated and post that later.

i was hunting around my in-laws old bookcase and found some delicious vintage nancy drews and i got so excited i almost called seth aaron and asked him to whip me up this little number:

sorry, i cant get over it. i love it.

so, here's what we are going to read for may: any nancy drew mystery of your choice!

she's all over the local library scene - you should have no trouble finding her. or borders. or if you're the vintage type i got my good friend and nancy lover melissa an original nancy drew vintage cookbook a year ago. check out ebay or half.com for that sweetness.

April's Book

i'm hoping none of you saw the movie. but if you did, DO NOT judge the book by it (or so my sister says...). books are always sooo much better. it's a quick read, that way we can all actually have it read by the time we meet. if you enjoy greek mythology, you'll like it (going off of what my sister tells me about it -- and i trust her judgement in books)! then we can go and watch 'clash of the titans', haha!!

happy reading! (hopefully nobody has read it, yet...)

what has everyone been reading?

so i guess book club is on a bit of a hiatus but i am hoping we will be back on schedule soon. how bout it liko, are we good for april?

in the mean time, i was just curious if you guys have been reading anything else lately. what have you been filling your quiet time with? that is, if you have quiet time.
i started huckleberry finn and have been enjoying it so far. but honestly i have been doing more sewing than reading as of late so i am only a few chapters into it. i can't wait to start reading again.
so, what have you been reading??
