book club re-vamp

we need to breathe some life back into this club so i have a few ideas on how to improve or at least get us started again.

here are some thoughts on the choice of books:
1. we keep going with the same idea. one girl a month chooses a book
2. we each throw out a few suggestions on books and we assign a book to each month

what do you think about the meetings?
1. we keep going how we have been
2. we assign a specific day each month to meet. for example the 2nd tuesday.
3. each girl takes a month hosting.
4. we always meet in the same place - someones house, laie shopping center, an abandoned shack in the hills

what do you think? any other suggestions?

August Book Group

I've been wanting to read 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary and Shaffer and Annie Barrows for quite some time. Its written in letter form, and is centered around a book group- quite appropriate, wouldn't you say?

Book cover
I still have to figure out a date to meet, likely towards the end of the month, but I thought I'd post the book up here early so people can start reading. My friends who have recommended it all described it as 'delightful'.

July Read

You don't even have to be a P&P fanatic to appreciate how shockingly enjoyable this book is.

But if you are a fanatic, like most of us are, then you might find yourself in the same state of pleasant surprise I did that this random guy got it so right and maybe even made the story all the more fabulous.

Nothing beats the original. Nothing. But I have to admit that this version gives a new perspective to the story that I couldn't get enough of.

I hope you enjoy it! I got my copy through the library system and I think they had to get it from another island so hurry and get on that if you don't want to buy a copy. I haven't checked BYUH though- they might have it.

We will meet at the end of the month like always and have fun.

June read:

i really love this fast read -- i read it YEARS ago, my mom suggested it as a summer read (it was one of her favorite books growing up) and that got me interested.
hope you like it!
miss you girls and as soon as i figure out an ideal meeting date/place, i will let you all know!
until then, happy reading!
(and have any of you read it before?  if lots of you have, i can choose another one...let me know!)

Change the Date

SORRY!

There is a slight date change from Tuesday the 24th to Wednesday the 25th!

I hope this doesn't throw anyone off or keep you from coming! I have a church mtg (Enrichment) on Tuesday night and since we are leaving the student ward, it's my last one to attend. The time has not changed. Still 8 o'clock pm!

Be there or be... you know the rest :)

Ready or Not...

Here I come!

I've always wanted to read this story of the ultimate "game" of hide and seek (so to speak.) I just ordered it in my son's Scholastic Book Order and I can't wait to begin reading this classic! Sorry if it's a repeat for anyone... but you can always read it again, right?

Let's chat!
When: Tuesday, May 24th
Where: Hitz Home (54-298 Hauula Homestead Rd. #A)
Who: All of you! Come whether or not you read :)

I will try to read it fast so I can loan my copy to anyone that needs to borrow it.

Annnnd I hope the date to "discuss" isn't too early... It's the last week of school for my kids, and then Memorial Day weekend and then we're off for the mainland. Soooo I hope it works!

lets start the new year off right

this is one of my favorite books of all time. i have read it a number of times and learn something new from it every single reading. i know this kind of book is a little out of the genre of stuff we usually read but i think it will improve our lives for the better. give it a chance.

i have one copy. steph is reading it now but will soon be done. she can pass it on to the next person to claim it. but really it might be one you would like to spend some money on so you can read and re-read it.
we will be meeting tuesday jan 25th 8pm at my (echo's) house. see you then!
