welcome to the blog for our new book club! i am excited to get this started and i hope you are excited to discuss some literature.
so this is how it will go down.
each month one of us broads will be in charge of choosing a book. it can be any book your heart desires. but it would be nice if it was a book that was easily accessible through a local library or available for a cheap price since books can be expensive.
the gal who is in charge of picking the book for the month will also be in charge of organizing some sort of get-together and lead a discussion of the book. those who cannot be present can blog about their experience and insights of the book here on this blog.
i think this will be lots of fun and it will be a worth-while hobby.
i, myself have never been much of a reader. in fact, for the most part growing up i hated reading. the only book that ever swept me away was Pride and Prejudice. and it still does for that matter.
that was until recently. then my friend rachel recommended for me to read Twilight. i have never been so obsessed with a book, let alone a series, or actually anything else for that matter. after reading those books i realized that i actually really enjoyed reading and wanted to get more into it. hence this book club.
so whether you are a seasoned literary snob or a newbie like me i think this book club is the place for you.
reading is fun!!!
p.s. here is an explanation for the title of the blog. i didn't know what it meant either when marc suggested it but i liked it once i understood. thank you wikipedia.
Hermeneutics may be described as the development and study of theories of the interpretation and understanding of texts. In contemporary usage in religious studies, hermeneutics refers to the study of the interpretation of religious texts. It is more broadly used in contemporary philosophy to denote the study of theories and methods of the interpretation of all texts and systems of meaning. The concept of "text" is here extended beyond written documents to any number of objects subject to interpretation, such as experiences. A hermeneutic is also defined as a specific system or method for interpretation, or a specific theory of interpretation.
Essentially, hermeneutics involves cultivating the ability to understand things from somebody else's point of view, and to appreciate the cultural and social forces that may have influenced their outlook. Hermeneutics is the process of applying this understanding to interpreting the meaning of written texts and symbolic artifacts (such as art or sculpture or architecture), which may be either historic or contemporary.
